Loop
The Coyote Loop Trail is a short, easy trail that contains the most shade of any of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge's trails. Making a loop of about 0.35 mile in total, visitors must walk portions of the Jackrabbit Loop and Bighorn Loop trails in order to reach the trail. A picnic area, historic railroad tie cabin, and birding telescopes all sit along the short trail. One feature of interest is the Refugium, a small building created to mimic the natural home of the Pahrump poolfish, an endangered omnivorous fish whose natural home was a spring that no longer exists due to groundwater pumping introduced to the area in 1975. The Birdsong Loop Trail can be accessed at the far end of the trail. All amenities are located at the trailhead at the visitor center.
