Starting from the main trailhead near Sweet Hollow Road in West Hills County Park, this route combines the Purple and Orange Loops to form a connected circuit through quiet, wooded terrain. Follow the Purple Loop clockwise, climbing gradually through mature forest before meeting the Orange Loop at a well-marked junction. Turn left to continue onto the Orange Loop, which forms a wider arc through the northern section of the park. Stay right at Y-intersections to remain on the loop, and watch for signage marking the Walt Whitman Trail — part of this route overlaps with the path leading to Long Island’s highest point, High Hill. From here, return to the Purple Loop to complete the circuit back to the trailhead.
This is a year-round route popular for short hikes, trail runs, and on-leash dog walks. Expect muddy or icy conditions in the colder months, and keep an eye out for deer and ticks in warmer seasons. While the trail remains close to local roads, the dense canopy and rolling topography give the area a surprisingly remote feel.
