The Berkeley Jackson Trail begins from a small parking area along Manor Road, just north of Jericho Turnpike in Huntington, NY. From the trailhead, the route forms a gentle circuit through mature hardwood forest, crossing several minor junctions that lead to side paths and nearby residential boundaries. Stay generally right at early forks to follow the main path through the core of the park. About halfway through the route, the trail climbs gradually over hilly terrain shaped by old sand quarries—these low ridgelines offer short but distinct elevation changes uncommon for Long Island day hikes.
Though the trail is easy to follow in drier months, sections can become muddy, narrow, or overgrown after rain. Slippery leaf cover and mossy rocks may appear in fall and winter. Trail markers can be sparse or hard to spot when leaves are down—download a GPS-enabled hiking app for smoother navigation. While this trail doesn’t offer long views or a dramatic destination, it provides a surprisingly quiet woodland experience just minutes from suburban neighborhoods.
