The Uplands Farm Sanctuary Loop begins at the parking area off Lawrence Hill Road in Cold Spring Harbor, NY. From the trailhead, follow the wide, well-marked path as it winds through a patchwork of native forest, meadow, and recovering farmland. Early on, the route skirts open fields where birdwatchers often pause for views of songbirds, raptors, and seasonal migrants. Continue through shaded woods and gently rolling terrain, passing occasional benches and interpretive signs that highlight the sanctuary’s conservation history and native species. At a few signed junctions, stay on the main loop trail, avoiding narrower side paths that branch toward research areas.
There is little elevation change, but sections may become muddy after rain or snowmelt. No reliable water sources exist along the route, so hikers should bring their own. Deer, wildflowers, and seasonal color add interest throughout the year. This short, easy route offers a quiet walk in nature with the feel of a more remote hike, making it ideal for families, birders, or anyone looking for a low-key day hike on Long Island.
