Loop
The Westcott Beach Loop begins near the main parking area inside Westcott Beach State Park and follows a well-marked series of interconnected trails through open hardwood forest and along scenic bluffs above Lake Ontario. Starting out on the Yellow Trail, hikers ascend gently to higher ground before meeting the Red Trail, which branches off to the left within a short distance. Continue following the Red Trail as it curves through shady woodland with occasional breaks in the trees offering views of the lake below. After a gradual descent, join the Orange Trail, which loops back toward the Red Trail through lowland forest and open picnic areas.
This route is a good choice for casual hikers, families with kids, or those looking for easy day hikes in northern New York. Spring and summer bring blooming wildflowers, and birdwatchers may spot migratory species near the shoreline. The trails are well maintained and accessible from early spring through fall, though ticks and poison ivy are common in warmer months. The final stretch offers a broad view of Lake Ontario—an ideal spot to pause before returning to the trailhead.
