The Blacksnake Mountain Route begins and ends at the Blacksnake Mountain Trailhead on ASP Route 3. From the trailhead, follow the well-defined path through mixed hardwood forest, climbing steadily onto the ridgeline. At the first junction, continue straight to stay on the main route, then bear right at the next split as the trail ascends along a rocky slope. Occasional breaks in the trees offer views across the Allegheny Plateau, especially rewarding in fall when the foliage is at its peak.
Beyond the ridgeline, the trail winds through quiet stretches of hemlock and oak, with opportunities to spot white-tailed deer or eastern wild turkeys. Small seasonal streams appear along the way, though they are not reliable water sources. The route eventually bends back toward the trailhead, descending gradually through shaded terrain before returning to ASP Route 3. This moderate hike combines steady climbing, forested travel, and scenic overlooks for a well-rounded day in Allegany State Park.
