The Figure 8 Trail begins from a small parking area along Bleck Road in the southern section of Finger Lakes National Forest. The route follows a well-established system of interconnected paths through a quiet hardwood forest, forming a figure-eight shape that allows for multiple variations. From the trailhead, hikers can travel in either direction and complete short or long loops depending on time and conditions. Several junctions occur within the first mile—stay right to begin the outer loop or left to explore inner segments of the route.
This moderate trail travels across narrow tread with occasional muddy sections, especially in spring. Rolling hills and shaded woods dominate the landscape, with seasonal streams crossing the trail in lower areas. Wildlife sightings are common—watch for white-tailed deer and listen for woodpeckers and songbirds overhead. In autumn, the mixed hardwood canopy delivers striking fall color. While the route is open year-round, snowshoes or cross-country skis are recommended in winter. There are no reliable water sources, and cell service is limited, so come prepared. The quiet setting and flexible layout make this one of the best forest day hikes in Central New York.
