Loop
The International Loop begins and ends near the Finger Lakes Trail (FLT) junction off Daisy Hollow Road in Tompkins County, New York. This challenging composite route links multiple loops and trail segments in the James D. Kennedy State Forest, forming a large loop route. From the FLT, head east onto the Swedish Loop Trail, winding through mixed hardwoods before crossing Hilsinger Road. Rejoin the FLT and continue southwest to the Spanish Loop Trail, then follow it to Owego Hill Road and a short walk to Adams Road, where the route reconnects with the Spanish Loop. Continue onto the English Loop Trail, which leads west back to Daisy Hollow Road and the original junction.
Trail users should be prepared for moderate to steep elevation changes, remote sections with minimal signage, and potentially muddy or overgrown trail conditions. Seasonal creeks and small streams may provide water, but availability varies—carry a filter and check recent reports. While the forest is bordered by a few country roads, the route maintains a quiet, backcountry feel with opportunities to spot deer, turkey, and other wildlife. This hike offers a rewarding circuit for experienced hikers looking for a longer, less-traveled day in the Finger Lakes region.
