Loop
The Dabes Diversion Loop begins at the Bleck Road parking area near Cortland County Route 9 and forms a moderate route through the gently rolling terrain of New York State Forest land. From the trailhead, follow the well-marked path through mixed hardwoods, gradually climbing over Class 2 terrain with some roots and rocky sections. At the first junction, continue straight to stay on the loop. The trail eventually meets a connector with the Finger Lakes Trail and the Kuzia Cutoff, offering options to extend or shorten your hike.
Small seasonal streams appear along the route, but water is unreliable—carry enough or plan to filter. Though accessible year-round, the route is best traveled from spring through fall; snowshoeing is possible in winter. Cell service is spotty, and slick sections may follow rain. This route sees less foot traffic than others in the area, making it a peaceful choice for hiking or trail running through a classic upstate New York forest setting.
