Description
The Bald Mountain Trail begins from a signed trailhead off North Branch Street in Bennington, Vermont, and follows a steady, sometimes rugged path through the Green Mountain National Forest. From the start, the trail climbs consistently on a narrow, wooded route with frequent roots and exposed rocks. After a short distance, the grade steepens and remains sustained through the upper half of the hike. The trail winds through a mixed hardwood forest known for vibrant fall foliage and offers occasional glimpses of wildlife, including moose, black bear, and raptors. A few small seasonal streams cross the lower sections, but there are no reliable water sources near the summit. The final approach narrows and steepens slightly before breaking into open ledges near the top. From the broad, rocky summit area, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of both the Taconic and Green Mountains.
