Description
Right next to to one of the largest beaches in York, Maine, is a great hike where you can explore the rocky coastline. In this popular tourist destination, the Cliff Walk is a great way to get away from crowds and enjoy the scenery. A short there and back hike, the Cliff Walk takes you along an old sea wall that follows the coast for about about three-quarters of a mile. The trail used to continue, but a private land owner has now put a fence to bring the trail to a stop. Along the hike you will come across beach access at different points as well as access to the rocky coastline Maine is famous for. The hike can be narrow at times, and there are "hike at your own risk" signs posted at the beginning of the trail due to the path being very rocky and unmaintained. Some of the cliffs do get very high above the beaches, but at the highest points the trail veers off the edge and into the woods. The length of this hike makes it a great sunset stroll, but bring a jacket because it can get pretty windy on the ocean at night. York is a popular summer tourist spot. From the beaches to the mountains York has everything. You can even camp along the coastline at one of the many campgrounds in the area. York has a lot to offer the outdoor explorer. There are plenty of beaches and coastline to fish as well numerous beaches lining the town. Also, be sure to check out one of York's many seafood restaurants to try some chowder. The cliff walk is a great way to end or begin your day at the beach or exploring the beautiful coastline of York. York Harbor Beach is right next to the Cliff Walk as well as York Harbor.
