From the trailhead, follow the main path into mixed hardwood forest. At the first Y-intersection, stay right to reach the pond more quickly. The trail skirts the shoreline in several spots, offering peaceful lakeside views and opportunities for birdwatching. Interpretive signs near the pond highlight local wildlife and forest ecology. As the route curves east, it climbs slightly before rejoining the initial path and returning to the parking area. Expect muddy sections in spring and occasional overgrown brush in summer. The trail is open to hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, though winter access may vary depending on snow and road conditions. Water from Basswood Pond is non-potable, and ticks are common from spring through early fall.
