Loop
The Canadarago Lake Overlook Loop begins at a small trailhead along Roses Hill Road east of Richfield Springs, on land protected by the Otsego Land Trust. From the parking area, follow the main Overlook Trail through a mixed hardwood forest that climbs gradually along the ridge of Panther Mountain. After a short ascent, the path opens to a panoramic viewpoint with a wooden bench—an ideal spot to rest and take in views of Canadarago Lake and the wooded island below.
Beyond the overlook, the route continues through quiet working forest, connecting with the Forest Trail and optional Vernal Pond Loop to form a gentle circuit. Expect a mix of open canopy and shaded sections, with occasional muddy patches after rain. The area supports a variety of wildlife and shows evidence of sustainable forest management. Access is generally reliable in summer and fall, though Roses Hill Road may become impassable in winter or heavy weather. This short, scenic route offers one of the best lake views in northern Otsego County.
