Loop
The Dutch Gap Conservation Area surrounds Henricus Historical Park where you'll find woodlands, wetlands, and the old James River channel created when Sir Thomas Dale attempted in 1611 to shorten the river distance by channeling a bypass. During the winter you can observe the "graveyard" of submerged barges and several islands. Dutch Gap also provides a boat landing on the James River.
This trail is adjacent to the city of Henricus, the second successful English settlement in the New World.
