Loop
The Featherweald Loop begins from a small trailhead and kiosk at 187 County Route 59 in the Buskirk area near Cambridge, New York. This marked route follows the White Trail through a short but steep wooded climb before joining the more level Yellow Trail to form a gentle circuit through mature forest. At a Y-intersection shortly after the initial ascent, stay left to complete the route clockwise. The trail weaves through tall red oaks and maples that once sheltered a great blue heron rookery, and several bench areas provide opportunities to pause for birding or quiet reflection.
While the trail is easy overall, hikers should be prepared for some brief, uneven footing on the climb. From late winter through summer, access near the rookery may be seasonally limited to reduce disturbance. No dogs are allowed at any time due to wildlife sensitivity. This short, family-friendly route offers a peaceful walk in a compact preserve, with seasonal glimpses of the Hoosic River valley and consistent opportunities for wildlife observation.
