Description
St. Albans Town Forest can be accessed off Forest Dr and offers interconnected trails weaving through rolling terrain. From the trailhead, keep right into forest to start the first loop. Then follow the Saddle Trail on a well-marked path that gradually ascends through stands of mixed hardwood. The trail passes remnants of old stone walls and occasional seasonal streams that hint at the land’s farming history. As the trail loops around, gentle elevation changes offer a steady workout without technical difficulty. Wildlife such as white-tailed deer and birds of prey are common, especially during quieter hours. In winter, snowshoeing is popular, though traction is recommended due to icy conditions. This route can easily be extended with other trails within the town forest, but the loop itself offers a satisfying walk through peaceful woods.
