There and Back
Janack's Landing, at the end of Dead Creek Flow (the extreme south end of Cranberry Lake), has a couple sandy areas suitable for beaching a small boat. From Janack's Landing take the well-marked Plains Trail that proceeds through deep woods climbing a gentle grade. After about a mile head east on Cowhorn Junction Trail for about 0.6 miles. At the next trail junction stay left onto Cat Mountain Trail. This is where the grade steepens a bit for the rest of the way up to the summit. From the summit there is a great view of the Five Ponds Wilderness to the southwest.Though the trail mostly climbs, low lying areas can be muddy, but there are boardwalks and bridges to get you over these spots.
