This moderate route begins at the trail entrance on North Point Road, just north of Upper Sargent Pond. Head south on the Upper Sargent Pond Trail, hiking through a mixed northern hardwood and boreal forest. Within a short distance, reach Upper Sargent Pond, a peaceful body of water with possible loon sightings and several quiet campsites tucked near the shoreline. After a slight backtrack turn west on along the trail as it gradually descends past Middle Pond, another scenic spot for a break or overnight stop.
At a signed junction, turn left onto the Lower Sargent Pond Trail. This portion of the route crosses a few small streams and travels through dense forest before reaching the western shore of Lower Sargent Pond. After enjoying views across the water, continue following the trail north, passing Grass Pond, to close the loop and return to the starting point via North Point Road.
This route is ideal for a relaxed overnight or a mellow day hike, with opportunities for wildlife viewing, swimming, and solitude at all three ponds.
