Loop
The Morris Island Loop Trail begins at the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge on Morris Island in Chatham, Massachusetts. From the parking area near the visitor center, walk a short distance north along Wikis Way, then turn left on Tisquantum Road. Continue briefly, then turn left again onto the access trail that descends toward the beach. At the first three trail junctions, stay right to remain on the main route. After the third junction, turn left to follow the trail as it curves toward the outer point of the island.
The route loops back along the beach, offering broad views of the Cape Cod shoreline and salt marsh. Hikers can choose to shorten the loop at any point using one of the access spurs that reconnect with the inland trail. Retrace the road section to return to the parking area. This flat, sandy trail passes through a mix of coastal habitats—dunes, tidal flats, and forested scrub—and offers excellent chances to spot migratory birds and harbor seals from the shoreline. Be aware that portions of the trail may flood during high tide or storm conditions. Leashed dogs are allowed from September 16 through April 30, but are prohibited during the nesting season from May 1 to September 15.
