There and Back
The route begins at the Lake Morey Road Trailhead, following the Cross Rivendell Trail into mixed hardwood forest. From the outset, the trail climbs steadily on a well-worn path, crossing a small seasonal stream before reaching Glen Falls—a scenic cascade that's especially photogenic in spring and early summer. Continue uphill along the marked trail, navigating a few short steep sections with exposed roots and rocks. Around halfway to the summit, the forest opens briefly before transitioning into denser woods again.
At a signed junction near the ridge, stay right to continue toward Bald Top. The trail narrows and steepens slightly, with minor scrambling possible as you approach the summit. From the open ledges at the top, take in wide views west across Lake Morey and the surrounding hills of the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Return the way you came, enjoying a different perspective on the descent. This route is a solid pick for day hikes in Vermont’s Town Forest lands, especially during peak fall foliage.
