The Life Ways Trail begins near the visitor center at Plenty Coups State Park and forms a short, easy route through the surrounding prairie. Starting from the paved path just beyond the center, follow the well-maintained gravel trail as it winds past interpretive signs that share the history of Chief Plenty Coups and the Apsáalooke (Crow) people. The route loops past the historic homesite and a shaded picnic area before circling back to the visitor center.
This flat, accessible trail offers open views across the prairie landscape and serves as a thoughtful cultural and educational walk. While there is no water along the trail, drinking water is available at the visitor center. Due to minimal shade, plan for sun exposure during the hotter summer months. Ideal for casual strolls and family-friendly outings, this route provides a meaningful glimpse into Indigenous history in south-central Montana.
