This route begins at the Banzhoff Road trailhead near the western boundary of Two Rivers State Park. From the parking area, the trail enters a mixed hardwood forest and gradually climbs along a wide path with gentle switchbacks. Early in the hike, continue right at the first Y-intersection to stay on the main trail. Around halfway through the route, you’ll encounter a moderate hill that provides partial views through the trees into the Chemung River Valley—especially clear in spring or fall.
The route winds through quiet woodlands with stretches of open understory, wetlands, and occasional stream crossings. Expect muddy or slick conditions after rain, and watch for ticks and mosquitoes in warmer months. Deer, woodpeckers, and migrating songbirds are often spotted, and wildflowers bloom in late spring and summer. After completing the loop, the trail returns to the original trailhead. This is a peaceful option for low-key day hikes near Elmira with rewarding scenery and minimal elevation gain.
