Loop
Begin this moderate route at the Steege Hill Nature Preserve parking lot and follow the Yellow Trail east into a mixed hardwood forest. After a short distance, turn left onto the Red Trail, which climbs gradually to a forested ridgeline. At the next junction, continue east on the Blue Trail, passing through second-growth woods and subtle glen terrain. Follow the Blue Trail until it meets the White Trail, then turn left to follow the full perimeter of the White Trail as it loops north and curves back to its southern junction with Blue. Retrace your steps briefly along the Blue Trail, then rejoin the Yellow Trail to return to the parking area.
Trail surfaces vary between packed dirt, roots, and rocky sections, with muddy spots likely in spring or after rain. While signage is limited, trail colors match the preserve map, and a GPS or map is recommended to stay on track. This route offers a quieter alternative to more popular day hikes in the Finger Lakes region, with rewarding opportunities for solitude and wildlife observation.
