Point to Point
This route on the Finger Lakes Trail begins near the Sugar Hill Fire Tower, perched in Sugar Hill State Forest. From the trailhead, head west through a mixed hardwood forest, descending gradually along the ridgeline. After a short distance, the route bends south, crossing a few seasonal drainages and contouring above several shallow gullies. Stay on the main trail and continue past unmarked paths—navigation is straightforward, but footing can be slick after rain or in early spring. Around halfway through the route, hikers enter Meads Creek State Forest, where the trail rolls gently through increasingly remote and quiet woodlands.
The route ends at the parking area off Meads Creek Road, near the southern boundary of the state forest. Along the way, expect varied terrain, intermittent water sources, and a strong sense of seclusion. This is a rewarding segment for those looking to explore lesser-traveled day hikes in the Southern Tier.
