There and Back
From the Sand Siding Road parking area, head west a short distance on Swatara Rail Trail, then turn left onto Sand Siding Trail. After crossing the bridge over Swatara Creek, turn left onto Bear Hole Trail. The wide crushed-stone trail winds gently through the forested Swatara Creek valley with minimal elevation change, offering a quiet setting for wildlife viewing and creekside scenery.
The route leads to the historic Armar Bordner Cabin, a preserved 1930s-era structure built from local stone and timber. Just beyond the cabin, a short path leads to Aycigg’s Falls — a small but scenic cascade on Rattling Run. The area around the cabin provides a natural rest and picnic spot before returning along the same trail.
