There and Back
This short route begins at the parking area off Rogers Ferry Road in Crawford County and travels south into the Helen B. Katz Natural Area. The footpath winds through floodplain forest and wetland edge, with easy terrain and minimal elevation change. After a short distance, the trail reaches a small, historic man-made pond surrounded by natural vegetation.
Hikers return along the same route to the trailhead. Wildlife viewing and birding opportunities are common throughout, especially near Cussewago Creek and wetland areas. Portions of the trail may be muddy depending on season or rainfall, so waterproof footwear is recommended. This is one of the best easy day hikes near Meadville for exploring protected wetlands and forest habitats.
