This multi-trail route begins and ends at the main parking area off Route 5 near Lake City, PA, and explores the full range of terrain in Erie Bluffs State Park. Start on the Transition Trail, then link to the Black Oak Savanna Trail to head west, crossing rare meadow and savanna habitat. Turn left on Whitetail Trail and follow it farther west to reach a key junction just before the Duck Run Trail. Here, you can take an optional out-and-back spur down Duck Run Trail for a steep wooded descent to a cobble beach along Lake Erie. Be aware that the Duck Run creek crossing may be impassable in high water.
Back at the junction, head north on West Overlook Trail for elevated lake views, then turn left on Timber Trail. This stretch includes ephemeral creeks and wet zones, especially in spring. At the Y-intersection, stay left on Bluffs Edge Trail, which closely follows the edge of the bluff—trail signage here is limited, so use GPS or a map to stay on course. Look for the turn to Fishermans Foot Path for a short descent to Elk Creek and its scenic gorge. Return to Bluffs Edge and continue west onto Wildflower Lookout, then connect to Lookout Trail. Finish with a left turn on Transition Trail to return to the parking area. This easy to moderate route combines coastal views, creekside exploration, and inland ecological diversity—ideal for hikers seeking a quiet day hike near Lake Erie.
