The Log Cabin and Tamarack Trails connect key recreation areas in the southern section of Pymatuning State Park near Jamestown, PA. Starting near the Jamestown Campground or the Jamestown Modern Cabins, the Log Cabin Trail follows a flat, wooded corridor through mixed hardwood forest. The trail links directly to the Tamarack Trail, an easy loop named for the tamarack trees common in the area. At the junction, follow Tamarack Trail in either direction through shaded woods and past a quiet bay with glimpses of lake water through the trees. Hikers have the option of connecting to the group camping area along West Lake Road or returning the same way.
This easy route is suitable for nature walking, casual hiking, or winter snowshoeing. Expect occasional muddy stretches and uneven footing, especially on the Log Cabin Trail, where downed trees may be present. Both trails are accessible year-round and provide peaceful walking through a quiet corner of one of northwestern Pennsylvania’s largest state parks.
