Massasoit Trail

This short and peaceful route begins at the Forest Headquarters on Slab Bridge Road and forms a wooded circuit using a mix of singletrack and forest roads. Start by heading south on Payne Road. After a short distance, turn right onto the Massasoit Trail, a narrow footpath that winds through red maple swamp and mixed forest. Expect soft footing in places, especially after rainfall, and watch for trail markers—signs may be obscured during winter. At the next junction, turn left onto Hathaway Road and follow it south to reconnect with Payne Road and return to the Forest Headquarters This lightly trafficked route offers hikers and trail runners an easy way to explore wetland forest within the Massachusetts DCR network.
