Loop
Begin this moderate route at the small parking area on the west side of Collins Corner Road, about 1 mile north of Old Fall River Road in Dartmouth, MA. From the trailhead, head north on the Red Trail into a mix of upland forest and low-lying wetland terrain. At a Y-intersection shortly in, veer left to stay on the Red Trail and follow the northwestern edge of the reserve, with occasional views through the trees toward Copicut Reservoir. The trail forms a large wooded loop, with several boggy sections—especially during spring or after rain—so waterproof footwear is recommended.
Roughly halfway through, take a short spur onto the Lycopod Loop, a shaded segment through dense groundcover of clubmoss and soft-needled conifers. Rejoin the Red Trail to continue past the remnants of the 19th-century Jason Phillips Mill site, where stone foundations rest beside a small stream. The route returns to the same parking area. While this area is open year-round, it borders a private target-shooting club, so wearing blaze orange during hunting seasons is advised. Ridge Hill Reserve offers a peaceful walk through varied forest terrain, with historical and ecological highlights along the route.
