Loop
This route begins at the Hazen Union School and winds through the Hardwick Village Forest on a network of community-maintained paths. Starting on a gently rising trail through mixed northern hardwoods, this route winds through the forest, passes occasional interpretive signs and glimpses through the trees toward Buffalo Mountain.
The terrain remains mellow throughout, with a few short climbs and moderate grades. Trail crossings are frequent, so carrying a map or using GPS is recommended, especially at less-defined intersections. In shoulder seasons, expect muddy or icy patches, particularly in shaded gullies. The route eventually circles back toward the school, returning along the opposite side of the initial loop. With year-round access and forested solitude close to town, this is a solid choice for day hikes near Hardwick.
