Loop
The Osmore Pond Loop begins and ends at the Osmore Pond Day Use Area in New Discovery State Park. This easy, family-friendly route circles the quiet shoreline of Osmore Pond, traveling through dense northern hardwood forest. From the parking area, hikers follow the path clockwise or counterclockwise around the pond; either direction offers gentle terrain and shoreline views. Boardwalks and small footbridges help with wet sections, especially after rain. The trail remains close to the water throughout, offering opportunities to spot beaver lodges, songbirds, and, with luck, moose or black bear at a distance.
Open during the summer and fall hiking season, the trail also sees snowshoe and cross-country ski use in winter, though facilities are closed in the off-season. Dogs are allowed on leash, and boating is permitted on the pond, but fires and camping are prohibited along the route itself. With minimal elevation change and scenic forest cover, this is a relaxing walk ideal for casual day hikes in Vermont’s state parks.
