The Devil’s Hill Trail begins and ends at the Devil’s Hill Trailhead off Devil's Hill Road, just north of Mud Pond in Groton State Forest. From the parking area, the route climbs gently through mixed hardwood forest, winding uphill toward the base of Devil’s Hill. At the first junction, stay right to begin the summit loop in a counterclockwise direction. The trail gains elevation steadily but moderately, with a few short rocky sections underfoot. As you near the top, the forest opens to reveal wide, unobstructed views across the surrounding hills and Mud Pond below. After taking in the summit views, continue around the loop to reconnect with the main trail and descend back to the trailhead.
This short and manageable hike offers a rewarding summit for day hikers looking to explore the best forest trails in central Vermont. Expect muddy stretches after rain and keep an eye out for wildlife, including black bears and moose.
