Loop
The Dearborn Forest Loop begins at the end of Jama Drive in Candia, New Hampshire, where a short bridge leads from the parking area to a trail kiosk. From here, hikers can follow the East Trail in a clockwise direction or start on the West Trail for a counter-clockwise route. Both trails are well-shaded and meander through quiet mixed hardwood forest. The East Trail passes near Onway Lake, with a short side trail to the Lake Loop offering filtered views of the water and potential sightings of loons or other waterfowl.
The route connects via a short stretch of the Rockingham Rail Trail, which runs along an old railbed, before rejoining the West Trail to complete the loop. Trail markings include red and yellow blazes, though they can be sparse or hard to spot in places—pay attention at intersections and bring a map or GPS. Some short hills, wet areas, and rocky sections add mild technical challenge, especially in spring or after rain. This route is a peaceful, close-to-town option for day hikes in southern New Hampshire, with just enough elevation change to keep things interesting.
