The Albert W. Doolittle Conservation Area sits just east of Beaver Lake, with public access from Faith Drive in Derry. This mellow route begins on wide, packed-earth trails and quickly joins a level path built along the former Chester & Derry Electric Railroad corridor. From the entrance, hikers can follow the central railbed trail into the forest, with opportunities to branch off onto connecting side trails that wind through oak and pine woodlands. After a short distance, the trail reaches Manter Brook and adjacent wetlands, offering a peaceful stop for birdwatching or winter snowshoeing. The terrain stays flat or gently rolling, with no steep climbs or rugged sections.
This is a relaxed walk suitable for hikers of all ages, including families and leashed dogs. Trails are well-defined but unsigned, so GPS navigation is helpful. Despite being close to town, the area remains quiet and lightly trafficked year-round. Whether visiting for a short nature walk or a peaceful winter outing, this route offers an easy escape into southern New Hampshire’s woodlands.
