The Cricket Hill Trails network begins at a trailhead off Cricket Hill Road just outside Hyde Park. This locally maintained system features a mix of interconnected loops, spurs, and short out-and-back segments, weaving through a peaceful mix of forest and lowland wetland habitat. Most trails follow gentle grades with some moderate climbs, making the area accessible for novice hikers while still offering engaging terrain for more experienced visitors.
From the main trailhead, hikers can choose several options including hardwood glades with open understory, and a network of trails through wetland areas where birdwatching opportunities are strong, especially in early mornings. Keep an eye out for seasonal stream crossings and muddy sections, particularly in spring or after rainfall. Wildlife sightings—such as deer, moose, and a variety of birds—are possible throughout the area. This quiet network is ideal for low-elevation day hikes in northern Vermont and offers year-round access for hiking or snowshoeing.
