The Bear Swamp Yellow Trail begins at the main parking area on Bear Swamp Road and follows a well-marked path through mature mixed hardwood forest managed by the NYSDEC. From the trailhead, head clockwise or counterclockwise—both directions offer a similar experience through fern-covered glades and beneath a shaded canopy. Along the way, small seasonal streams may cross the path, and a scenic pond near the loop’s midpoint offers a natural stopping point. Wildlife sightings are possible throughout, especially deer and songbirds.
Trail conditions vary by season, with potential for mud in spring and snow or ice in winter. Primitive camping is allowed at least 150 feet from trails or water sources. Expect occasional bugs in summer and be prepared for downed trees after storms. This is a low-elevation, novice-friendly route ideal for hiking, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing, with year-round access.
