Loop
Starting from the main parking area near the Interpretive Center on Bishop Hill Road, the Boundary Trail forms the primary outer circuit around Baltimore Woods Nature Center. Hikers can access the loop from several points near the trailhead, but most begin by heading west past the open meadow and quickly entering the shaded forest. The route winds through a mix of mature hardwood stands, gently rolling hills, and quiet valleys, connecting with several shorter trails along the way. At multiple signed junctions, stay on the Boundary Trail to continue the perimeter route — avoiding turnoffs for the Valley Trail, Griffiths Trail, and Pioneer Trail unless you’re adding distance or exploring side loops.
Several seasonal streams and lowland crossings add variety to the terrain, and the forest opens occasionally to reveal views across nearby ridges and open glades. In winter, the Boundary Trail is a popular choice for snowshoeing thanks to its moderate grades and scenic character. Wildlife viewing is common, especially along wetland edges and near Phillips Pond. The route ends where it began near the Interpretive Center, offering a rewarding circuit for those looking to explore much of what Baltimore Woods has to offer.
