Description
The East Trail to Snake Mountain begins from a small trailhead off Mountain Road near Addison and steadily climbs through a dense, mixed hardwood forest. The route follows an old carriage road for most of the way, offering a wide, well-defined path with moderate grades. After a short distance, the trail crosses a few intermittent streambeds that may run during wetter months but should not be relied on for water. The grade increases slightly as the trail winds uphill, with occasional root-covered sections and exposed rocks, especially higher up. Near the top, the trail narrows and passes through a more open canopy before arriving at a broad clearing with a striking overlook. From this rocky perch, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views across the Champlain Valley toward the Adirondack Mountains to the west. This is a straightforward and rewarding route for hikers seeking a short but scenic outing in the Snake Mountain Wildlife Management Area.
