Description
The Abbotts Bridge Trail is a short, beautiful hike along the Chattahoochee River. Two massive, old-growth oak trees tower over the beginning of the trail near the boat ramp, and they are a must-see. Scott Hudgens Park marks the turn-around point of the trail. Along the trail you can expect to find wildlife, fishermen, and the beauty of the river. The parking area at Abbotts Bridge offers restrooms, a pavilion, a meadow area, and a boat ramp. To find the trail, walk to the boat ramp and you will see the trail heading up a short incline to your left. The first section of the trail is generally well maintained. However, the second section of the trail is frequently overgrown. At the trail midpoint, you will hop over a small trickle of water, which can expand into a large creek during rainfall. At this point, the Abbotts Bridge Trail continues to your right, but this marks the beginning of the section that can become overgrown. A secondary social trail has formed in recent years to the left. This secondary, unofficial trail is shorter, well traveled, and also leads to Scott Hudgens Park.
