Loop
The Drake Well Loop starts at the Jersey Parking Lot near the Drake Well Museum, just outside the northern boundary of Oil Creek State Park. From the trailhead, head south on the Gerard Hiking Trail as it winds through mixed hardwood forest along the west side of Oil Creek. After a moderate stretch, turn left onto the Boughton Connector Trail, which leads to a swinging bridge crossing the creek. On the far side, a short climb up a series of switchbacks brings you to the Gerard Hiking Trail on the east side. Turn left at the junction to follow the trail north along the opposite side of the creek and return to the trailhead.
This moderate route offers forested solitude and a glimpse into Pennsylvania’s oil industry roots, with views of Oil Creek and direct access to the historic Drake Well Museum. It's a rewarding option for day hikes in northwestern Pennsylvania, combining scenic terrain with regional history.
