Point to Point
This route begins at the Bamberry Road parking area in Mariposa State Forest, where the Finger Lakes Trail (FLT) crosses the road. From the trailhead, follow the white-blazed FLT heading west through a mix of hardwood forest and gently rolling hills. After a steady walk through quiet woodlands, you’ll pass a backcountry lean-to shelter, located just west of Paradise Hill Road. This shelter makes a natural destination or rest point along the route.
Shortly past the lean-to, look for a signed connector trail to complete a loop by circling back toward the eastern side of the forest, reconnecting and leading back to Bamberry Road. Expect moderate elevation changes and a few intersections with old woods roads that require careful navigation. The final leg returns you to the same parking area where you started. This is a rewarding route for hikers looking to explore a quiet section of the FLT with forest solitude and an optional overnight at the lean-to.
