There and Back
The route begins and ends at the Kite Lake Trailhead after reaching the 14,222' summit of Mount Cameron.
From the trailhead, cross the outlet stream and head northwest on the well-defined trail in the middle, passing the Kite Lake Campground access on the left, and the Kite Lake Overlook Trail on the right.
At 0.6 miles, angle right as the trail steepens and begins ascending a series of rocky switchbacks up the headwall. Continue through the boulder fields to reach the 13,400' Democrat-Cameron Saddle at 1.4 miles.
Crux: The sustained west ridge above the Democrat-Cameron saddle — from 13,400' to the Mount Cameron summit — is the most exposed section of the route, where moderate rockfall is the primary concern on the loose, rocky ridgeline.
Turn right and continue east across the ridge. Climb 840 vertical feet to reach the flat summit of Mount Cameron at 14,222' at 2.3 miles.
Retrace your steps back to Kite Lake to complete the route.
