Trail Overview

South Pelican is an easy, scenic 1.9-mile trail ideal for beginners and casual offroaders looking for a quick woodland escape near Pelican Lake. The route offers a pleasant mix of roadside riding and deeper forest immersion, beginning near the Boiling Springs Tavern on the east side and winding west toward the Lakeview Inn. Navigating a combination of paved county highway and unpaved, dirt terrain, this trail is highly accessible to most high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, UTVs, and ATVs. As the trail dives south into the dense woods, it provides a quiet escape from the busier lake roads, showcasing the lush Wisconsin forest canopy. With a technical rating of 2 out of 10, the route is relatively flat, with elevations gently shifting between 1,599 and 1,680 feet. However, drivers should remain alert for mud and shallow water holes, especially along the low-lying eastern sections and the heavily wooded western half after recent rainfall. The surface consists primarily of dirt mixed with loose stones and minor rocky patches, requiring basic tire placement but no specialized recovery gear. This trail is best experienced from late spring through autumn when local foliage is at its peak and the path is free of deep winter snow packs.
