Trail Overview

DA 83 is a 0.7-mile spur connecting DA 63 and DA 66, rated upper intermediate due to its steep and deeply rutted climb from the eastern entrance. The ascent features 1 to 2-foot-deep ruts filled with loose rock and wide embedded rock layers/ledges, with off-camber sections that become extremely slick and greasy when wet. After navigating several switchbacks, the trail levels out into a flat shelf along the hillside. This short connector demands skill and momentum at the start, but eases off once the initial climb is completed.
