Trail Overview
Wooded Forked Path is a scenic, 1.2-mile unpaved route through the northern Gifford Pinchot National Forest, climbing nearly 300 feet to a peak elevation of 3,546 feet. This narrow gravel road connects Forest Road 7400000 on the west to the Nisqually Loop and the E-682 road network on the east, and features shallow potholes up to three inches deep.
The route is susceptible to washouts, landslides, and seasonal mudslides. Wet winter and spring conditions make this unmaintained corridor exceptionally slick and muddy. A high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended to navigate the narrow sections and minor debris. Nearby recreation includes hiking and dispersed camping within the national forest.
Access Description
The trail is situated on public land within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. While there are no direct entry fees for driving the route, a Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass may be required if parking or using designated recreation sites nearby. Seasonal closures or temporary blockages may occur due to washouts, mudslides, or heavy winter snow accumulation, so checking with the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District prior to departure is advised.
