Trail Overview
Winston Road trail is a gravel-based forest road through the National Forest. There is a significant elevation change from one end to the other as the trail is steep in some sections. There is overgrown vegetation and low overhead clearance, so you can expect some minor pin striping. Camping is available along this route, and there are a couple of dispersed camping pull-offs with pre-existing fire rings and a view of Mt Ranier. There are a couple of small mud holes and rutted sections, but closer to the bottom end of the trail, there is a small spring that runs under the trail, and there is a significant wash that has approximately a foot and a half deep rut/wash. There are logs stacked in the ruts of the wash, but if you choose a proper line, you can avoid the ruts for the most part. There are no amenities or services along this trail, and you are about an hour's ride to the nearest services. Cell phone service was not good on this trail, so downloading the offline maps is a good plan. High clearance 4x4 is recommended for this trail, and there are other connecting trails to explore.
