Trail Overview

West Twin Road - FS 3000 in Olympic National Forest is a smooth, well-maintained forest road that is suitable for most high clearance vehicles and a great option for a relaxed day out. The surface is primarily compact dirt and gravel, with minimal obstacles, making it an easy and enjoyable drive through dense Pacific Northwest forest. Keep an eye out in a few sections where the road edge has partially washed away, nothing technical but worth slowing down and giving yourself space. The route winds through lush evergreens with occasional openings that offer peaceful views of the surrounding hills and forested valleys. It is a great access point for exploring the area, with opportunities for dispersed camping, quiet hiking routes, and wildlife viewing, especially deer and elk if you are out early or late in the day. Side trips and pull-offs make it easy to stop and take it all in, whether you are scouting for a campsite, heading out for a hunt, or just enjoying a scenic forest drive.

I marked the trail as "Clear", but this could be misleading. There are two conditions that would make this impassable by a 4-wheeled vehicle. First is a large rock embedded in the middle of a burm that runs across the road. Challenging on a motorcycle. Impossible on anything with 4 wheels unless you have an extreme ground clearance. The other obstacle is the saplings overhanging the road from both sides. You could to it in a 4-wheel vehicle if you do not car about your paint. Fun ride on my 390 Adventure.
