Trail Overview
The Switchback Trail is a steep, winding single-track route that descends a mountainside through a continuous series of tight dirt switchbacks. The surface consists primarily of packed dirt with scattered rocks, creating a mix of straightforward riding and sections requiring careful control. The trail is well-defined, making the route easy to follow despite the frequent changes in direction. Many of the switchbacks extend outward at the apex, providing additional room for riders to swing around the tight corners. However, the turns arrive quickly and often, making speed management essential throughout the descent. Riders should approach each corner cautiously, maintain controlled braking, and prepare for the next turn immediately after exiting the previous one. The steep grade and repeated switchbacks make this a rewarding trail for riders comfortable with downhill single-track.
Difficulty
The primary challenge is navigating repeated tight switchbacks while descending a steep mountainside. Scattered rocks, downhill braking, and frequent direction changes require good balance and controlled speed. The well-defined trail and wider switchback elbows make the turns more manageable, keeping the overall difficulty at the lower end of intermediate.
