Trail Overview
The Shire is a 1.8-mile point-to-point dirt bike-only singletrack trail in the Foothills ORV system that offers one of the more technical rides in the trail network. The route follows a loose, raw trail surface with several steep sections, rocky climbs, and a rugged southern portion characterized by exposed roots and soft, fluffy dirt. Riders will encounter several steep, loose climbs where maintaining momentum is key, creating a fun challenge for those looking to step beyond the system's smoother trails. A Discover Pass is required for recreation and parking within the Foothills ORV system.
Difficulty
The Shire is rated Moderate due to its consistently loose terrain and technical features. The combination of steep grades, rocky climbs, exposed roots, and soft, fluffy soil demands good throttle control and momentum, particularly through the southern half of the trail. While it does not reach the difficulty of a true hard enduro route, several sections have a mild enduro feel and will reward riders with solid clutch, balance, and line-choice skills. Less experienced riders may find the steep, loose climbs challenging, especially in wet conditions.
